WHEN SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN 2

WHEN SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN 2! My people, we are still on this interview and 'job-getting" palaver. Everyone has their part to play in having a smooth interview. The employer or jobseeker can easily make or mar the experience for themselves or the other party. Today we are continuing our previous topic, we all know there are times of awkward silence during interviews when either party is at a loss for words. For the interviewer, there is not much pressure, because the line of questions are already prepared before the interview and can so easily added to or removed without the jobseeker ever knowing. Now this awkward silence arises when the jobseeker is asked a question (in a field he claims to be qualified or be an expert in) and he/she just stares dumbly at the interviewer. Some even move their lips like they want to say something and just stop midway like they saw a ghost! Guys! Don't do that. If you don't understand the question try to get the interviewer to expatiate further clues will be given away as further explanation is made and you might even discover it is something you already know but just didn't understand the manner in which it was described. Don't be too stiff during your interview, relax, breathe, focus and let concerted thoughts flow through your head. Chances are if you are too tense you will cloud your thinking faculty. Listen keenly to questions asked, a lot of questions describe their answers and you find that even if you don't fully understand the question you can always get what is inferred from the etymology (look that word up!) of the word or phrase. Try as much as possible to also engage your interviewer as you are being engaged, with awareness you will be able to tell when the interview is being steered into dangerous waters and you will wisely turn the conversation to topics you are better at. Make eye contact, be confident but not cocky, make sure you are sending out good body language and be careful to ensure it is being interpreted as such. Remember that even with an excellent CV, you are not guaranteed employment if you foil the interview. Make a great impression, get a GREAT job TODAY!
