The Voice Of Jacob & The Hand Of Esau

The Voice Of Jacob & The Hand Of Esau

blog.gr8jobsng

According to the Biblical Story, a man named Isaac, the son of Abraham was old, his sight was poor, and he was about to die. Isaac had two sons, twins actually, named Esau & Jacob. He asked them to come for his blessings but because his sight was poor Jacob was able to deceive him. Esau was a very hairy man so all Jacob had to do was wear goatskin on his arm so he felt like Esau but he still sounded like Jacob. This was what made his father utter the statement "It's the hand of Esau but the voice of Jacob". He eventually blessed Jacob with the blessings of Esau because he couldn't see. Employers find themselves in such a dilemma sometimes, they become Isaac in the hands of the Jacob - like employees and jobseekers who will do anything to get a high profile job. Is it not annoying when you as an employer is coughing out huge amounts in salary and the employee is just not living up to his/her billing? Do you smell a rat? Is something amiss?...

A Minute Of Video Is Worth 1.8 Million Words

A Minute Of Video Is Worth 1.8 Million Words

blog.gr8jobsng

Research has proven that video is much more powerful than the written word. According to Forrester Research's Dr. James McQuivey, "a minute of video is worth 1.8 million words. We all remember how much work it was to find information before the internet but these days you can see whatever you want at the touch of a button. Today, not having an online video is approaching that level. Every day more and more static text is being replaced with sound and motion, meaning video is not just becoming the most relevant marketing tool to connect people to you, it's currently an advantage and will be an absolute necessity for anyone looking to achieve and create awareness. Words provide an expression, video leaves an impression With video being the fastest growing, most rapidly consumed marketing medium, one should ask why. The answer is simple. If you saw a video, you do remember it, and you can see it; most critically, you can feel it...

Dress The Way You Want To Be Addressed

Dress The Way You Want To Be Addressed

blog.gr8jobsng

Hello everyone! We are here once again with another very important topic. It's the issue of dressing and the way we put our outfits together when we are going for an interview. I know we want to make a good impression but PLEASE guys, it is not an opportunity for you to show your fashion sense. It's not an opportunity to show us "colour blocking", "ripped jeans" or "half tops" with micro mini skirts. It is also NOT necessary for you to come for an interview dressed like you are going to church. First and foremost you must consider the organization in which you are to be interviewed. What is their dress code, what do they expect from you. Various multinationals have various fashion ethics, you will do well to come in a shirt and tie with trousers. If you intend to make a good impression, you can never go wrong with a well ironed shirt, a mono coloured dark trouser (a blazer is a good addition) and a formal shoe that matches your belt. For ladies, a shirt and skirt or trouser suit is fine. Don't assault your interviewer's senses with colour riot or badly put together attires...

When Silence Is Not Golden 2

When Silence Is Not Golden 2

blog.gr8jobsng

WHEN SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN 2! My people, we are still on this interview and 'job-getting" palaver. Everyone has their part to play in having a smooth interview. The employer or jobseeker can easily make or mar the experience for themselves or the other party. Today we are continuing our previous topic, we all know there are times of awkward silence during interviews when either party is at a loss for words. For the interviewer, there is not much pressure, because the line of questions are already prepared before the interview and can so easily added to or removed without the jobseeker ever knowing. Now this awkward silence arises when the jobseeker is asked a question (in a field he claims to be qualified or be an expert in) and he/she just stares dumbly at the interviewer. Some even move their lips like they want to say something and just stop midway like they saw a ghost! Guys! Don't do that. If you don't understand the question try to get the interviewer to expatiate further clues will be given away as further explanation is made and you might even discover it is something you already know but just didn't understand the manner in which it was described. Don't be too stiff during your interview, relax, breathe, focus and let concerted thoughts flow through your head. Chances are if you are too tense you will cloud your thinking faculty...

The Trap Question 2

The Trap Question 2

blog.gr8jobsng

THE TRAP QUESTION 2 So we already talked about the 'trap question' earlier. As a follow up to that, today we are looking at another question that jobseekers find tricky during an interview. It's one of those questions you are almost certain will be asked but you still seem unready for it when it hits you. Some interviewers usually have a smirk on their face when it is asked. Sometimes, the way, manner and time it is asked during the interview throws the jobseeker off balance. Most times the jobseeker is wondering in his mind when the question will pop up and the suspense just drives them nuts. Most times it is like a bait or a trap that is set for the jobseeker to fall into. How do we answer this question without displeasing ourselves or sending an untrue impression about our value to our potential employer? At almost every interview we hear the question; "How much are you willing to earn?" We are amiss as to what to say, do we over value ourselves so that when negotiation is done we might settle for something around what we really want. Do we say the truth and risk being priced further down? ...

You Are Killing Employers!

You Are Killing Employers!

blog.gr8jobsng

YOU ARE KILLING EMPLOYERS WITH YOUR APPLICATIONS!! This post has been a long time coming! Yes we all need jobs, Yes there are a lot of vacancies to be filled, recent jobs abound and we all have the urge to apply for this one and just when we want to log of the job platform, we see another that strikes our interest. Before we know it, we have applied for so many jobs at the same time and WITH THE SAME CV! We know that some people are very qualified but really, can you honestly be qualified for so many unrelated jobs at the same time with the same CV?! I stand to be correct but to the recruiter, by the time a particular CV occurs a number of times with the same content it reeks of desperation and lacks specialization. Guys! please calm down! Peruse the platform, find the job that is best suited for you, the job that is meant for you. Prepare your CV in a way and manner that highlights your skills in the desired vacancy and send your application. We cannot rule out the fact that you will find a job or two or maybe even three that you are suited for but kindly resist the urge to spam the recruitment platform or agency with a CV that lacks direction but rather oozes of recklessness...

When Silence Is Not Golden

When Silence Is Not Golden

blog.gr8jobsng

WHEN SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN! 1 We have all heard the saying that 'silence is golden' but sometimes silence can give you a heart attack. Especially when you are eager to get a response from a company you applied for a job with. You are all pumped and psyched up that you are the ideal candidate for the job vacancy. You are qualified, have met the requirements and then you apply and start waiting in anticipation. You stalk your email, jumping up at every beep your device makes, hoping it is a response from the company. It could be very frustrating especially when there is no customer care platform dedicated to jobseekers. For a position that has many people applying for the same vacancy, it will be very tricky for customer care representatives to track and give real time status on every application and CV. Wouldn't it be great if each jobseeker could accurately track their applications? Wouldn't it be so much better if a jobseeker could know if their application has been attended to or if it is just lying in an inbox somewhere? This will give the jobseeker or job applicant peace of mind knowing exactly where he/she stands...
